Caraway’s 2023 Year In Review

2023 was a year of growth for Caraway. We expanded our services, grew our membership, and found out we’ll be presenting at SXSW EDU next year. Business Insider listed us as one of the top healthcare startups set to take off in 2024. CB Insights named us one of the top 50 most promising digital health companies of 2023 in the world. And our CEO, Lori Evans Bernstein, was named one of Rock Health’s Top 50 Leaders in Digital Health. 

Still, what we’re most proud of are the thousands of hours we spent with members providing therapy, helping them access birth control, answering any and all health concerns, and working with them to establish healthy habits now and care for themselves in the future. 

Here’s a look back at a few more highlights from our year:

✨ We raised our Series A 

In June, we announced our $16.75M Series A to advance our integrated mental, physical, and reproductive healthcare services for Gen Z, 18+. 

The raise, led by Maveron and GV (Google Ventures), joined by Wellington Access Partners, Ingeborg Investments, and The Venture Collective, with continued participation from 7wire Ventures and Hopelab, has allowed us to push forward toward our goal of reimagining what healthcare can look like for a new generation.

👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 We launched Caraway Crew 

Caraway Crew is a thriving network of over 100 students and young professionals across 12 states who have helped to shape Caraway from the inside out.  When we say we are built for and with Gen Z, we mean it. 

In addition, Caraway Crew hosted hundreds of in-person events and got the word out about Caraway in their communities.

👍 We have an NPS of 82

Our goal at Caraway is to provide a care experience above expectations. That’s why knowing that our members love Caraway enough to share it is truly something to celebrate.

🧰 We launched 8 new MyPaths 

MyPath is our clinician-guided self-service toolkit. With exercises, meditations, and journal reflections, MyPath is one of the primary ways we’re setting members up to care for themselves in the long term. 

Managing Panic, Handling Stress and Hard Emotions, and Learning Coping skills are just a few of the mental health topics we cover, and we’ll be adding more in the coming year to meet members' pressing needs.

🌎 We supported members all over the world 

This year, we partnered with an organization to provide care to hundreds of members as they traveled to places like Melbourne, Stockholm, Tokyo, and more. 

This partnership has also allowed us to expand our Care Team to include international clinicians, and we can’t wait to support them in 2024 as well in the US and worldwide.

💜 We expanded medication abortion services to 6 states and counting

Caraway can now provide this essential reproductive healthcare service in six states, with plans to expand in the coming year. 

This year, we’ve seen the continued spread of devastating restrictions around reproductive health across the country and the relationship that reproductive health has on mental health – especially the stress of navigating barriers to birth control, gynecological care, care for hormonal conditions, and abortion services. We’re proud to specialize in healthcare for women and people assigned female at birth, who are disproportionately impacted by these barriers.

💡 We met members where they are 

This year, we put our integrated care model into practice by hosting in-person and virtual workshops. Caraway will always provide 24/7 healthcare available via our app, but we’re also excited to continue to meet members’ needs in new ways. Whether through in-person workshops with Educational Housing Services (EHS) in New York City or free virtual workshops on need-to-know information, we found new ways to connect in 2023.

Our members inspire us every day, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure they have the care they need today, next year, and for years to come. We’ll be in their pocket and ready to support them, mind and body, all year long.
